MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local officials on Monday said Taliban militants shot dead a woman in a revenge attack in Kohistan district of northern Faryab province.
A security official, wishing not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two Taliban militants had been seeking marriage with the woman and one of them got her engaged. In retaliation, the second rebel, a commander named Ghafoor, killed a sister of the engaged girl.
The 20-years-old victim, also a mother of one child, was killed for rejecting Ghafoor’s proposal, the official said.
The Independent Human rights Commission head for Faryab, Sayed Hafizullah Fitrat, condemned the incident and called it an inhuman and un-Islamic act.
If Taliban really wanted to implement Sharia then they must punish the murderer, he said.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the incident.
