KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The construction of a building for the agriculture institute of southeastern Khost province, a project worth 700,000 euros, began on Monday, an official said.
Governor Hakam Khan Habibi, who participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the building, said the agriculture institute was located near Ghar Ghakht School on 5.5 acres of land in Khost City.
He added the single-storey building would have 18 rooms, bathrooms, a laboratory and other allied facilities. The building will cost 700,000 euros donated by Germany.
“Developing the agriculture sector in Khost is a fundamental need. On behalf of the provincial administration, I promise improving the agriculture sector in addition to executing other development projects in the province,” he said.
Education Director Eng. Bakht Noor Bakhtyar told Pajhwok Afghan News there were financial problems in the absence of a proper building for the agriculture institute. He asked the Ministry of Education to resolve problems of other educational centres too.
The institute is currently housed in a rented house having small rooms that do not meet resolve students’ needs. He said 194 students were enrolled in the institute.
