KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): NATO, Gen. John Nicholson, accompanied by Defence Minister Gen. Abdullah Habibi and spymaster Masoom Stanikzai, paid a visit to southern Kandahar province on Monday.
The visit is aimed at assessing security situation in the southern zone, said the Kandahar governor’s spokesman, Samim Khpalwak. He said the high-ranking delegation met the governor and security officials at the Kandahar Airport this afternoon.
He said the delegation’s arrival was aimed at further improving the southern zone security situation. The delegation met Kandahar authorities and offered some recommendations about security improvement, he said, without going into details.
However, the spokesman said Governor Dr. Mohammad Homayoon Azizi told the delegation that the security situation was better in Kandahar compared to other provinces.
Azizi linked the good security situation in Kandahar to people’s cooperation and better coordination among security organs.
The delegation visits Kandahar at a time when its neighboring Helmand and Uruzgan provinces have been the scene of continued clashes between security forces and insurgents.
