PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Nearly  60 cadets were killed and 122 wounded on Monday night when terrorists stormed a police training college in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.

Military and Frontier Corps personnel launched a clearing operation after the attack on the college in Quetta, the provincial capital, to clear the premises, local officials said.

At least 600 police cadets are under training at the institute. At least 60 people, mostly cadets, were killed and 122 others injured in the attack. The death toll may soar, give the critical condition of some of the injured.

Inspector General of Frontier Corps (FC) Sher Afgan told reporters the terrorists were communicating with their handlers in Afghanistan. “There were three terrorists and all of them were wearing suicide vests.”

He said two of the suicide attackers blew themselves up, a third was shot dead by the security personnel. Some military personnel involved in the clearing operation suffered critical wounds.

An intermittent exchange of gunfire continued for several hours, said Home Minister Mir Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti. The operation involving Special Services Group (SSG) commandoshas come to an end.

Gunfire and three explosions rocked the training centre. The attackers reportedly carried AK-47rifles and grenades. Two military helicopters flew over the area on Saryab Road.

Lashkar-i-Jhangvi Al-Alami group was behind attack, Sher Afghan claimed, alleging the assailants received directions from Afghanistan.”Within three hours the operation was concluded,” he said. “What could be better than that?”
