Kunar farmers receive improved quality wheat seed, fertilizer

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Improved quality wheat seed and fertilisers were distributed among hundreds of farmers in eastern Kunar province on Sunday.

Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock director Inamullah Sapai told Pajhwok Afghan News a total of 4,000 farmers would be provided with the agriculture input this year.

“Ninety-six tonnes of improved seeds and 182 tonnes of white and black fertilisers have been prepared for distribution to farmers this year.”

According to him, each farmer having 2.5 acres of land would be given 25kg of improved quality wheat seed and 50kg of black and white fertiliser.

The agriculture director anticipated doubled wheat harvest this year with distribution of the improved seed to farmers.

Meanwhile, Kunar Governor Waheedullah Kalimzai said there was insufficient arable land in the province and farmers should fully utilize the available land. The governor asked farmers not to grow poppy on their farm lands.

One of the farmers who received the aid, Faiz Mohammad, appreciating the government’s timely aid, said the government should construct water reservoirs and irrigation canals in the province.
