TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A police officer was killed and two other security personnel were wounded in an explosion in central Uruzgan province on Tuesday, an official said.

Dost Mohammad Nayab, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb blast took place in Sarchakhel area of Tirinkot, the provincial capital,in the morning.

He said a police officer was killed and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were injured in the bomb attack.

Uruzgan intelligence chief, Gen. Zakaria Azizi, said the National Directorate of Security (NDS) deputy chief and the commander of 4th ANA battalion were injured and a detective killed in the incident.

A security official, who wished to go unnamed, said the officers were walking through a street when the device went off.

Clashes between Afghan forces and Taliban have been going on in the area for the past several days. As a result, both sides and civilians have suffered casualties.
