Bishkek delivers aid for Kyrgyz families in Badakhshan

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Some 475 Kyrgyz families living in the Pamir Mountains of northeastern Badakhshan province have received food and health assistance from Bishkek.

The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Naveed Frotan, told Pajhwok News on Tuesday the aid included 71 food and non-food items such as flour, rice, sugar, blankets, mattresses and pillows and winter clothing.

In addition, 35 types of medicine and medical instruments were part of the assistance from the Kyrgyzstan government.

Frotan said a 20-member group, led by the Kyrgyz minister of refugees, delivered the aid to border police chief, Col. Abdul Hadi,in Wakhan district. Col. Hadi would later distribute the aid to the Kyrgyz families.

Governor Ahmad Faisal Bekzad expressed his gratitude toKyrgyzstan for the humanitarian gesture. “Residents of Wakhan are very poor. Due to heavy snow, they lost their animals last winter. They are faced with food shortages and have to eat animalfeed to survive.”
