5 border police killed in Kandahar attack

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Five border policemen including a commander were after Taliban militants stormed their check-posts in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.

A security official, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants attacked border police check-posts in Sar-i-Ghabargai locality of the Arghistan district late on Saturday night.

He said dozens of militants were taking part in the attack that resulted in the killing of five border police including a commander.

But the governor’s spokesman, Samim Khplwak, confirmed the killing of only one policeman. He said four policemen were wounded in the incident and the attackers had also suffered casualties but no exact figures were unknown.

Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claimed the fighters killed 13 border police including a commander while confirming the killing of one fighter.
