KABUL, the government on Monday moved the Supreme Court to explain the summoning of cabinet members by parliament.
On his Facebook page, President Ashraf Ghani’s deputy spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazavi quoted 2nd Vice-President Sarwar Danish as saying the government had prayed the apex court to judge whether or not the ministers’ summoning was legal.
The lower house, on November 2, decided to summon the ministers who spent less than 70 percent of their development budgets and refer several others to the attorney general’s office for violating budgetary rules.
Seventeen ministers spent less than 70 percent of their budgets last year, says the lower house, which has unseated ministers of foreign affairs, labour and social affairs, public works, education and transport.
The government expressed concerned over the summoning and disqualification of ministers, saying the Wolesi Jirga had ignored the president’s request to suspend the process.
