KABUL (Pajhwok): The unity government leaders on Monday strongly condemned a suicide attack on a religious ceremony in capital Kabul.

At least 27 people were killed and 35 others wounded when the suicide attacker struck a religious ceremony in a Shiite mosque, Baqir Al-Uloom, in Chahar Dehi area at around 12:20pm today.

The Presidential Palace in a statement said President Ashraf Ghani was deeply saddened over the incident and blamed it on the enemies of Afghans.

“Such attacks show clear enmity with Islam and people and is an attempt to fuel divisions,” the president said.

Ghani ordered health officials to use all available resources in treatment of those injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah also strongly condemned the attack and said it was the handiwork of the enemies of Islam and humanity. “Attack on sacred places is an act of cruelty and barbarism,” he said.

Former president Hamid Karzai also denounced the attack on the Shiite worshippers and said: “Bad wishers of Afghanistan should know that all Afghans stand united against conspiracies of our enemies and for a united Afghanistan.”
