Terrorism globally threaten human rights: Abdullah

KABUL and Daesh, CEO Abdullah Abdullah said on Saturday.  

Human rights and protection of human dignity are one of most important values of today’s world, he said in his message on the occasion of Human Rights Day (Dec 10).

Abdullah said every citizen has the right to enjoy fundamental rights in a society and every country needed to observe human rights values for achieving a non-violent society.  

The CEO said human rights defending countries and international institutions especially the Human Rights Commission every year on December 10 celebrated the International Human Rights Day.

He said the day was aimed at supporting human rights’ values and promoting and expanding them in the world in order to pave the way for social justice and to defend human rights.

However, Abdullah said: “Unfortunately in our country besides other issues, the main hurdle in the way of realizing human rights are terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, Taliban and the newly-emerged Daesh who are out to violate human rights.”

The message quoted the CEO as saying that civil rights especially of women’s and children’s were being violated by terrorist groups.

He said the Afghanistan government considered as a top priority ensuring fundamental rights of citizens, protecting human rights especially preventing violence against women in the country.

Meanwhile, the British Embassy in Kabul also marked the Human Rights Day by hosting a reception for human rights defenders from across Afghanistan.

“It was an opportunity to celebrate the brave work they do and learn from their experiences and consider how better we might support them in future,” said British Ambassador to Afghanistan Dominic Jermey.

The British Embassy worked closely with the Afghan government and civil society to support human rights and the work of many brave people protecting human rights of others, he said.

On 10 December 1948, Afghanistan, the UK and 46 other countries came together to set out the rights to which all human beings are entitled, he added.
