ASADBAD (Pajhwok): Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University officials in eastern Kunar province on Saturday apologized over not playing the national anthem during a graduation ceremony.
The ceremony at the Shariah Faculty took place about four days ago. The national anthem was not played on the occasion, sparking reaction from social media users.
The university chancellor, Prof. Mir Ahmad Hamid, told Pajhwok Afghan News the national anthem was unintentionally not played, calling it a mistake.
He said it was a fourth batch graduating from the Shariah faculty and the national anthem had been played during all the previous graduation ceremonies.
Shariah Faculty head Prof. Najibullah Samim also said the national anthem was mistakenly not played at the graduation ceremony.
“I apologize to the entire nation for not playing the national anthem,” he said, insisting they had always respected the anthem.
