KABUL Cricket Board (ACB) plans asking the International Cricket Council (ICC) for full membership status, an official said on Monday.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak said the board’s chairman, Atif Mashal, had formed a committee to work on a proposal highlighting the country’s achievements. The proposal will be dispatched to ICC.
Recent performance of Afghanistan, an Associate member of ICC, encouraged the ACB to approach ICC for full membership. The national side has already beaten full member in recent matches.
Afghanistan has met most ICC conditions for full membership and the national side had outplayed Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the West Indies, the spokesman continued.
Hotak said a coherent proposal would be prepared and be dispatched to the cricket body after a review by the ACB head.
Mashal recently took charge of ACB and made multiple pledges including the expansion of the Kabul Stadium and establishment of quality cricket academies in five zones of the country.
