FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Fourteen Taliban militants have been killed and ten others wounded during clashes with security forces in northeastern Badakhshan and northern Jawzjan provinces, officials said Tuesday.
Jawzjan governor’s spokesman Mohammad Raza Ghafoori told Pajhwok Afghan News militants stormed security check-posts in Qush Tepa district late on Monday night. Security forces escaped unhurt and three attackers were killed and five others wounded in the gun-battle.
Mustar Faizullah, a resident, said dozens of militants including Uzbeks attacked the check-posts on Monday night.
Insurgents, who had been previously living in Shur-Qodoq area, had recently come to the district center with their families, the resident said.
Zabihullah Mujahid, Taliban spokesman, said the fighters inflected heavy casualties on security forces in the attack, but provided no figures.
In Badakhshan, 11 Taliban militants were killed and five others wounded during an operation on Tuesday morning in Yaftal locality of Faizabad, the provincial capital. Six villages were also cleared of insurgents, crime branch police chief, Col. Sakhi Dad Hidari, said.
He said unknown gunmen injured a foreign organization’s employee in Faizabad late on Monday night and three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
