KABUL Bank (DAB) on Wednesday said banknotes with their color changed or covered by ink could be exchanged until March 20 and then no longer usable for transactions.
A statement from DAB to Pajhwok Afghan News said banknotes that were stuck back together with sticky tape or glue, painted with colors or stamped or their colors changed as result of carelessness would be invalidated with the beginning of new solar year 1396.
The DAB asked people holding such notes to bring them for exchange to their nearest DAB branches before March 20. The bank also asked people to be careful in protection of their banknotes.
According to a Pajhwok Afghan News report published on January 28, many Kabul residents had complained about increasing old banknotes of one, two, five, 10, 20 and 100 afghanis in the market. They said some moneychangers did not take worn banknotes from people.
The Afghan currency notes come in dominations including one, two, five, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 afghanis and coins of one, two and five afghanis.
