ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested a notorious drug smuggler along with a companion and tens of kilograms of drugs in southwestern Nimroz province, officials said on Wednesday, bringing to an end an eight-year long chase.

Nimroz police chief Col. Khwaja Jilani Abubaker told Pajhwok that Haji Naeem, a resident of Khashrud district, was arrested in Maldaran area of Zaranj, the provincial capital, the possessing 38 kilograms of narcotics.

An official at the counternarcotics department, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said police had been chasing Haji Naeem for eight years and was transferred to Kabul after his arrest.

Nimroz province serves as corridor for drug smugglers en route to Iran from Helmand, Kandahar, Farah, Herat and even Nangarhar provinces.
