GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Families displaced by the conflict from southern Helmand Province to the capital of central Ghazni province have been living in a bad condition and are in need of serious help.
Nine of the replaced families have been living under a tent elected on snow in Ali Lala locality of Ghazni city. The families have not been extended any help from the government side.
About their life in the tent, Anwar said their children were sick due to cold weather and if not cured, they would die.
“There were clashes in Helmand every day, so we had to leave and come to Ghazni. Now we have no food and water here”, he said.
Khan Mohammad, another displaced resident, said, they fled homes owing to the raging conflict in Helmand.
“Since coming here, our children have been sick and we don’t have enough money for their treatment.”
Khan Mohammad said they had received some help from the Natural Disasters Management Authority, but that was not enough.
“We have built our tents on snow and ice, our children can’t sleep because of the cold and all of them have become sick”, he added.
Farishta, a small girl who lost her father to the conflict in Helmand, said she escaped to Ghazni with her brothers and other relatives. She has been living in a hand-made tent with her family.
She told Pajhwok her family was without a guardian and they had nothing at home. “My brothers and sisters are all sick”, she added.
Provincial Natural Disasters Management Department head Hafizullah Gulestani said they had assisted the displaced families who needed more assistance.
The families have been struggling with numerous problems particularly their exposure to harsh winter due to a lack of shelter.
Besides the families from Helmand, families from many other provinces have been displaced to Ghazni, but not enough help has been extended to them so far.
