PARAKH (Pajhwok): Twenty-five people have been arrested by police in central Panjsher province in connecting with smuggling drugs amounting to 700 kilograms, an official said on Sunday.
Col. Najmuddin, deputy provincial police chief, said of the detainees four carried 500kgs of raw hashish. They were arrested while crossing a check post in Dalan Sanga area of Shatal district on Saturday.
The smugglers had skillfully placed the drugs in a Surf model car and they wanted to smuggle the narcotics to Kabul through Andrab district of Baghlan province.
Meanwhile, he said, 190kgs of raw hashish and 10kgs of opium were confiscated from 21 smugglers last week in the province.
He said the 21 accused wanted to smuggle the drugs in separate vehicles to Kabul. All the 25 detainees hailed from Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Nuristan provinces.
Esmatullah, a member of the provincial council, said cultivation of poppy crop had plummetted to zero in Panjsher but drugs from Badakhshan, Baghlan and Nuristan were smuggled through the province.
