KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Kandahar Governor Dr. Hamayun Azizi, who was wounded in a massive suicide bombing, will return to work on next Saturday, an official said on Tuesday.

Currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the governor underwent medical treatment Azizi in India and France, has recovered and is expected to arrive in Kabul tomorrow (Wednesday).

Samim Khpalwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the medical treatment of Azizi had been completed. A delegation of elders from Kandahar would go to Kabul to welcome the governor at the airport.

He said the governor is poised to return to Kabul, where he will meet President Ashraf Ghani and other senior officials during his three-day stay. He would return to his office on Saturday.

A meeting, to be attended by local official, public representatives, civil society activists and businessmen, will be held at the governor’s house to celebrate the recovery of Azizi.

The bomb blast inside a guesthouse at the governor’s house on Dec 31 killed several people, including five Emirati aid workers, the deputy governor and two Afghan lawmakers.

Eighteen people, including Governor Azizi, UAE Ambassador Juma Mohammad Abdullah al-Kaabi, the AFCO Construction Company head, a brother of former president Hamid Karzai and some other influential figures, were wounded.
