LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Four bomb-making factories have been destroyed by Afghan forces in Marja district of southern Helmand province, an official said Monday.
The factories were destroyed in Pinzam Blak area of Marja district on Sunday night, Lt. Col. Mohammad Rassoul Zazai, the ANA’s 215th Maiwand Military Corps spokesman in Helmand, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said two vehicles, two walkie-talkies and some explosives were also seized from the factories. No gunshots were fired during the destruction of the factories in Marjah.
A separate operation by the Afghan forces was ongoing in nearby Nawa district, Zazai said.
In Nawa, the forces also defused many roadside bombs planted by militants, he said.
The governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, said the operation in Nawa district was going successfully. “The areas we have captured are now being demined,” he said.
A border police border, who wished to go unnamed, said the Taliban had brought two armoured vehicles for fighting against the Afghan forces during the operation in Nawa.
The tanks were destroyed in an airstrike by the Afghan and NATO forces.
The Taliban have being resisting over the past several days and lost a large number of fighters in airstrikes, the official added.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, in his twitter account claimed that eight security personnel including a commander were killed during an attack in Ainak area of Lashkargah, the provincial capital.
A week back, local security officials said they had launched an operation to retake Nawa district. The district fell to militants about eight months ago.
