QALAT (Pajhwok): The police chief for the Shenkai district of southern Zabul province has been killed along with a bodyguard in a roadside bombing claimed by the Taliban, an official said on Wednesday.

Provincial police head Brig. Gen. Mirwais Khan Noorzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban insurgents stormed a security check-post in Shenkai district at round 11:30pm on Tuesday night.

He said the district police chief, Saifullah Hotaki, wanted to rush to the site of the clash to help security forces but his vehicle struck a roadside bomb on the way.

According to Noorai, Commander Saifullah Hotaki and his bodyguard were killed and four policemen wounded in the blast.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the killing of Hotaki. The group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmad took credit for Hotaki’s killing on his social media account.
