No one allowed to establish provisional govt: CEO

KABUL (Pajhwok): Following Ahmad Zia Massoud’s recent remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) office on Thursday said no one would be allowed to create a provisional government.

Mujib Rahman Rahimi, the CEO spokesman, told a press conference in Kabul that the CEO had not been consulted on removing Massoud as the president’s special representative for good governance.

He said Massoud was sacked due to what the president called his weak performance.

However, Rahimi about Massoud’s remarks for creating a provisional government, said, “The issue of creating a provisional government could not be raised in the current conditions because the current government is based on democracy.”

Politicians could take a stance on different issues, but their stance must be based on law, he said.

To a question, Rahimi said: “I don’t think Massoud talked about a civil war, he in his remarks stressed on peace, stability and national unity, hasty decisions may lead to instability.”

He said entering coalitions in democratic governments was usual, but it did not mean going to war or destabilization. “There is no concern the country will plunge into crisis”, he said.

Without giving details, Rahimi said the CEO supported political partnership, peace and stability and he would not allow to create crisis on ethnic lines.

Massoud was dismissed four days ago by the president as his special representative for reform and good governance over what the Presidential Palace said his weak performance.

On Tuesday, Massoud claimed the president had no right to dismiss him under the national unity government (NUG) agreement. He warned the president would push the country into instability by sacking him.

Some sources close to Massoud said a number of political leaders would decide in near future about creating a provisional government and conducting presidential elections.
