MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The governor of northern Balkh province on Sunday vowed to take revenge on the Taliban with the ‘help of God’ following a deadly attack on a military base in the provincial capital, Mazar-i-Sharif.
Atta Mohammad Noor told a women’s gathering here that the attack on the Shaheen Military Corps would be avenged with the help of Allah.
The Friday’s attack, involving 10 gunmen and suicide bombers, left 135 soldiers dead and 60 others wounded. The troops were coming out of the mosque in their base after Friday’s prayer when they were attacked.
Noor said they would avenge each drop of the martyred soldiers. He said the attackers were wild and brutal and their actions had no place in any religion.
Atta Mohammad Noor said the bombers attacked the young soldiers while they were offering Friday’s prayer. They carried out the attack in compliance with directives from their leaders. “The enemy cannot face the Afghan armed forces.”
First Deputy CEO Eng. Mohammad Khan and the women’s affairs minister also participated in the gathering.
