JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 37 Daesh, or Islamic State, rebels including some foreigners have been killed in airstrikes in eastern Nangarhar province, officials claimed on Monday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants were killed during an ongoing military offensive codenamed (Hamza).
He said 37 insurgents were killed in airstrikes and artillery shelling in Angor Jumat, Akhundzadagan, Assadkhel and Mamand areas of Achin district. Weapons belonging to them were also destroyed during the operation.
Meanwhile, 201st Selab Corps confirmed the casualties in Achin airstrikes, saying Daesh had been weakened in the area. The rebel group, however, has said nothing about the latest airstrikes.
Babrak Amirzad, video reporter of Pajhwok Afghan News who had gone to Assadkhel, said Daesh guerrillas were still fighting against security forces in Achin. US soldiers were conducting air raids on militant bases, he reported.
