LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen militants have been killed and their four military vehicles destroyed in separate incidents of violence in southern Helmand province, an official said on Sunday.
The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan commando forces on Saturday night raided a Taliban hideout in Yakhchal area of Greshk district.
Four Taliban fighters were killed, a Corolla car of the group was destroyed and eight weapons were seized by the commandos, who escaped unharmed.
Cap. Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, the police chief for Greshk district, confirmed the raid.
He said another seven militants were killed in airstrikes by foreign forces in Yakhchal area on Sunday morning.
He said three HMMWVs, a ranger pick-up, four motorcycles and some weapons belonging to the militants were destroyed in the airstrikes.
Khpalwak said the HMMWVs were recently captured by the Taliban from Afghan forces and used them against the government.
Few days earlier, the Taliban used two Afghan National Army (ANA) ranger pick-ups in a bloody attack on an Afghan military base in northern Balkh province.
