KABUL (Pajhwok): New Afghan Army chief Lt. Gen. Mohammad Sharif Yaftali on Sunday asked the insurgents to either reconcile with the government or face defeat.
Addressing a graduation ceremony for soldiers and sergeants at the Kabul Military Training Center (KMTC) here, the Chief of Army Staff said the insurgents had no intention to embrace peace as destruction of Afghanistan remained one of their goals.
“The Afghanistan government’s armed opposition has no intention regarding peace in the country. Their only intention is destruction; but the Afghan National Army has strong resolve to ensure security and maintain peace in the entire country. The Afghan Army will powerfully fight against the armed insurgents.”
Addressing the graduates, the general said: “We have kept in view all of your problems which will be resolved as soon as possible to our ability.”
Brig. Gen. Lal Jan Zahir, KMTC Commander General, said as many as 1,226 soldiers and sergeants graduated after nine and 13 weeks of training courses.
He said in addition to training new soldiers, military corps officials were also sent to the facility for learning military lessons to grow their capabilities.
Mohammad Ramin, a newly graduated soldier, said: “I want to defend the country by wearing this military uniform and want to serve the war-weary nation.”
