MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have set a girls school on fire in the Pashtunkot district of northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Thursday.
Over 1, 200 students were enrolled in the school, which was recently constructed. The official had no idea who the arsonists were.
“On my way to the mosque for Fajar prayer, I saw the school on fire. Some Taliban came to the site and questioned the guard. They also traced the footprints of individuals who had set the school building light,” he said.
There was no claim of responsibility for the burning of the school. Taliban’s key leader in Faryab said burning schools was the handiwork of groups to defame the movement.
