LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Six policemen were killed and three wounded in a Taliban attack in southern Helmand province, an official said on Monday.

Police chief, Maj. Gen. Aqa Noor Kintoz, told Pajhwok Afghan News Taliban stormed a road checkpoint in Sangin district on Sunday night.

He said six security personnel were killed and three others wounded in the incident. The commander of the checkpoint was taken away by the militants in injured condition.

The checkpoint was under militants’ control for a while but it was recaptured after reinforcements reached to the area, Kintoz said.

However, a security official, who did not want to be named, said the policemen were killed by their commander who had links with the Taliban. But Kintoz rejected the claim and said a delegation had been sent to the area to investigate the incident.

Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, a Taliban spokesman, in his twitter account, said that their fighters stormed a security post in Karez area of Sangin district.

He claimed eight policemen were killed and their weapons and ammunitions captured by the Taliban fighters.
