Football: Afghanistan beat Maldives by 2-1

KABUL beat Maldives in a football match by 2-1 played in United Arab Emirate (UAE), the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) said on Wednesday.

AFF spokesman, Syed Kazami, told Pajhwok Afghan News the friendly match was played in Dobai city on Tuesday night.

One minute silence was observed before the start of the match to pay respect for the victims of recent bombing in Kabul, he said.

Afghan players put a great show by scoring two goals in the match ensuring their victory against the Maldives.

Hassan Amin and Omaid Popalzai scored one goal each for Afghanistan in the game, said Kazami.

He added the match was part of qualification round for the Asia Cup. Afghanistan will play against Cambodia in the next encounter.
