Sugar, fuel prices up, gold down in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar and fuel have edged up while that of Russian gold decreased during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, market source said Saturday.

Food Traders Union Head Fazal Rahman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the price of 49 kilograms of Pakistani sugar increased from 2,100 Afghanis to 2,150 Afghanis this week.

He linked hike in the price to low imports.

However, he said 50 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour cost 1,250 Afghanis, 24-kg of Pakistani rice 1,800afs and 16 liters of Khurshid ghee 1,120afs, the same prices of last week’s.

Haji Rahmatullah, a tea dealer in Kabul Mandavi, said a kilogram of Indonesian green tea cost 220afs and the same amount of African black tea 240afs, the same rates as of last week’s.

Ahmad Wali Panjshiri, who owns a grocery store in Dahn-i-Bagh area, said, 50-kg of Kazakhstani flour was sold for 1,300afs, 49-kg sack of Pakistani sugar for 2,350 afs, 16-litre tin of Khurshid ghee for 1,200afs, 24.5-kg sack of Pakistani rice for 2,000afs, a kilogram of Indonesian green tea for 270afs and the same quantity of African black tea for 290afs, higher than wholesale rates.

The price of Russian gold has increased.

Haji Fawad Ahamd Salehzada, a jeweler in Timor Shahee area of Kabul, said one gram of Arabian gold cost 2,300afs, no changes in the price recorded compare to the last week.

However, he said that the price of one gram of Russian gold decreased from 1,850afs to 1,800afs.

Fuel prices increased.

Abdul Hadi, a worker at Wazir Abad Fuel Station, said the price of one liter of diesel increased from 41fs to 42afs and the same quantity of petrol from 44afs to 46afs this week.

Ahmad Javed, a liquefied gas seller at in Taimani area, said a kilogram of the commodity cost 50afs.

According to money exchangers’ union in Sara-i-Shahzada, one US dollar accounted for 68.50afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 636afs against last week's rates of 67.90afs and 635afs.
