KABUL Cricket Board (ACB) has announced the national squad for a 50-over match against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) of England, an official said on Thursday.
A star-studded MCC line-up will play against Afghanistan in the fixture on Tuesday, July 11, at Lord’s — the Home of Cricket.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the selection committee had announced a 16-member squad for the match.
The tourists include Indian Premier League (IPL) stars Mohammad Nabi and teenage leg-spinner Rashid Khan, who took 17 wickets in his debut this year.
Other members of the team are Captain Asghar Stanikzai, Noor Ali Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Nasir Jamal, Samiullah Shinwari, Afsar Zazai, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib, Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran and Farid Malik.
Playing against MCC has a historic value and every cricketer wants to have a chance of playing at Lord’s.
MCC has the responsibility for the ownership and maintenance of the Laws of Cricket. Although changes to laws are now determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), copyright is still owned by MCC.
Some Afghan cricketers are also members of the club. ACB’s leadership calls the game against MCC a ‘national pride’, praying for victory of the national team in the historic encounter.
