KABUL (Pajhwok): Southeastern Paktia has won the Alokozay Syed Jamaluddin Afghan one-day tournament featuring 10 grade-1 provincial teams, an official said on Saturday.
Organised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the 10 provincial teams event began in Khost and Nangarhar provinces and ended in Paktia on Friday afternoon.
ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the Kabul and Paktia found their way to the final of the tournament.
Paktia, winning the toss, decided to bat first and scored 234 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs at the Ghazi Amanullah Stadium in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar he said.
Akmal top-scored with 75, followed by Rayaz with 40 and Abid 33. Weqar took three and Shakir two wickets.
Hotak said Kabul were unable to reach the target and lost all its players for a meager making 31 in 25 overs. Esmat Omarzai made 35 and Eshaq 31.
Paktika bowlers Kabirl Alikhel took six and Ehsanullah two wickets. Alikhel was declared man of the match.
At the end, ACB representatives awarded the trophy and prizes to the winners and runners-up, the board spokesman said.
By scoring 271 runs in the event, Ziaulhaq won the award of best batsman of the tournament. Waqar, who took 17 wickets, clinched the best bowler award.
