KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 24 people were killed and more than 42 others wounded as a result of a powerful suicide car bombing near Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq’s residence in Kabul on Monday.
Najib Danish, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide car bombing took place in the limits of the 3rd police district at 7:00am. Three vehicles and 15 shops were destroyed by the massive blast that killed 24 people and wounded 42 others.
Earlier, The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said five bodies and 15 injured people had been evacuated to different hospitals. The explosion happened near Zawal University between Dehbori Square and Dawa Khana roundabout.
According to a Pajhwok reporter in the area, a white Corolla car parked near Mohaqiq’s house in the neighbourhood, where a minibus came under attack. The victims were all civilians, the interior ministry spokesman said.
The bus was burnt glass from nearby buildings was scattered over the road as a result of the explosion, which shook the Hazara-dominated area. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
