Taliban car bomb attack in Kabul widely condemned

KABUL-claimed car suicide bombing that killed and wounded dozens of people in Kabul on Monday drew widespread condemnation.

At least 24 people were confirmed killed in the massive bombing that left another more than 40 wounded near the residents of a senior government official in the limits of the third police district at about 7am.

However, some sources put the toll at 35 dead and more than 50 wounded. The attack was strongly condemned by a number of government officials, including President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.

Abdullah on Monday told a Cabinet meeting that today the criminals registered another crime against humanity in their name. Abdullah called on politicians to set aside all their differences and join forces against the enemy.

First deputy CEO Mohammad Khan also condemned the attack as against Islamic, Afghan and human values.

National security advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar said the Afghan forces were fighting against an enemy whose all acts were inhuman.

A number of ministers, governors and other officials condemned the attack. The Hezb-i-Islami (HIA) denounced the attack as against all Islamic, Afghan and human values.

HIA spokesman Qarib Rahman said the Taliban once again proved their criminal nature to the Afghan people.

Meanwhile, a number of citizens also condemned the car bomb attack that drew condemnation from the US Embassy in Kabul.

The US Embassy in a statement said the deadly attack against brave civil workers of Afghanistan was a clear violation of their right to live in peace.

It said the US during this period of grief stood by the people of Afghanistan and once again renewed its commitment to a stable and peaceful Afghanistan.

The Pakistani Embassy in Kabul also condemned the attack and expressed grief over the loss of lives in a statement that called terrorism common enemy of the two countries.

The statement said Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms.

Iran and India also condemned the attack in Kabul. India prime minister Narendra Modi said India stood shoulder to shoulder with the Afghans in this hour of trouble.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said the Afghans would continue their campaign against terrorism despite such attacks.

A number of other countries also condemned the deadly car bombing in Kabul.
