KABUL in Herat yesterday evening, a statement from the diplomatic mission said on Wednesday.
“We send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured,” the embassy statement reads.
“We commend the government and security forces of Afghanistan for their response to this latest act of cowardly violence against innocent Afghan citizens. The United States will continue to work with all Afghans in their pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for their country,” it added.
Dozens of worshippers were killed and wounded when one suicide bomber blew himself up and a second opened fire inside a mosque in the capital of western Herat province late on Tuesday.
Herat police spokesman Farhad Jilani told Pajhwok Afghan News two suicide bombers targeted the Jawadia mosque of the Shiite minority in Bakrabad area of Herat City.
