LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Five Border Police personnel, including an officer, have been killed and seven others injured during the Taliban’s coordinated attack on police posts in Lashkargah, the provincial capital of southern Helmand province, an official said on Friday.
Col. Zahir Gul Maqbol, 4th Unit commander, said the Taliban stormed Border Police posts in the Bolan locality in which the group commander Ghosuddin was killed while unit Commander Tor Jan injured. The incident happened Thursday night.
Separately, a suicide car-bomb took place in the Gerishk district and fighting was underway in the vicinity of the district, district chief Mohammad Salem Rodi said.
Governor spokesman Umar Zwak said no security personnel was killed in the suicide car bombing while some injured.
He said 20 Taliban were killed while some assailants were still resisting.
Health officials said nine injured from Bolan while on from Gerishk had been evacuated to the hospital.
