KABUL (Pajhwok): Ammonium nitrate weighing 16,500 kilograms was seized and five persons detained in Kabul in connection with the banned fertilizer allegedly used by militants in making bombs, the spy-service claimed on Saturday.

The statement said the ammonium nitrate, which is used in making IEDs, landmines and suicide vests for explosions and terrorist attacks, was bagged in 50-kg sacks.
Five suspects were also nabbed in connection with the smuggling by NDS personnel. It identified four of the detainees as Naseer Ahmad, Aziz Ahmad, Hazrat Umar and Umari.
