KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The mayor for northern Kunduz province on Sunday said some 550 new employees were being hired by the municipality for cleaning the capital city, Kunduz City.
Najeebullah Omarkhail told Pajhwok Afghan News: “As part of the new programme named ‘Green City’ launched with financial support from the European Union (EU), more than 500 new employees will be recruited against a salary of $130 for each.”
He said currently 50 workers discharged cleanliness duty at the Kunduz Municipality and the current workforce couldn’t cope with the current issues in Kunduz city.
Hiring more employees was effective for keeping the city clean and was an important step in reducing joblessness.
“The decades-long war has rendered people homeless and unemployed. Among the 550 new recruits, 20 percent will be women and the process will take one month to complete.”
Kunduz residents say they are happy with the municipality’s announcement. Aimal, a resident of Kunduz City, told Pajhwok: “Recruiting unemployed youth is a big step and we support the municipality in this regard”.
