MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Pajhwok Afghan News helped end the financial woes of a man who offered his three years old daughter for sale to find money for the burial of his wife in northwestern Faryab province.

Amrullah’s wife was diagnosed with tuberculoses a year ago. Subsequently, the poor man sold all his assents and property to save his wife. But the young woman lost her battle for life despite strenuous efforts by her spouse.

As his wife passed away, Amrullah was left empty-handed and could not arrange a burial ceremony for her. The desperate man was forced to sell his three years old daughter.

Posted on Pajhwok reporter Qutbuddin Kohi’s Facebook page, the harrowing story went viral and people from around Afghanistan and foreign countries donated cash and to Amrullah.

An amount of 400,000 afghanis was raised to enable Amrullah to arrange the funeral ceremony for his wife. He also repaid 150,000 debt, purchased a Zaranj motorcycle for work and a plot of 450 square metres to build a shelter for his children.

The timely release of the story by Pajhwok Afghan News was highly appreciated by local religious scholars, human rights organisations, influential figures and area residents.

Maulvi leader, said Pajhwok had discharged its religious and humanitarian responsibility in the best possible manner.

Mohammad Tariq, former administrative chief of Qaisar district, also hailed Pajhwok’s report, which resulted in the rescue of the minor girl and pooling of enough funds for Amrullah.
