KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday appointed Wais Barmak as acting interior minister and a nominee for the post while appointing Taj Mohammad Jahid as advisor on security affairs.
The president’s order tasked State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs with introducing Barmak to the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament for a vote of confidence.
Barmak previously served as State Minister for Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA).
Lt. Gen. Taj Mohammad Jahid, who was serving as interior minister, has been appointed as president’s advisor on security affairs.
The president has recently appointed Mustafa Mastoor as acting economy minister, Yama Yari as acting public works minister and a candidate for the post, and Shahzad Gul Aryubi as acting telecommunication and information technology minister and a minister designate.
Earlier, Mohammad Tahmasi was appointed as acting transport minister, Mohammad Shafiq Gul Agha Sherzai acting border and tribal affairs minister, Tariq Shah Bahrami acting defense minister, Abdul Latif Roshan acting higher education minister, Faizullah Zaki acting ‘labor, social affairs, martyrs and disabled’ minister, and Nargis Nehan as acting mines and petroleum minister.
The acting ministers have also been nominated for the relevant positions to obtain a vote of confidence from the lower house.
