KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) on Friday asked all local government departments to celebrate the 98th Independence Day in a befitting manner.

Afghans will mark the country’s independence day tomorrow (August 19). The IDLG congratulated the nation over the day and asked provincial governors, mayors and district chiefs to celebrate the occasion by holding special ceremonies.

The directorate asked local officials to encourage and support people celebrating the day at street level and increase security measures compared to ordinary days.

It said each province had been released the fund for celebrating the Independence Day.

Civil society activists, media and all people were urged to participate in the day’s celebration in order to create unity against terrorists and voice support for the government and security forces.

“August 19 is the day when we remember our forefathers, their sacrifices and bravery, who registered the day as one of the most important in Afghanistan’s history.”
