JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 140 militants have been killed and more than 50 wounded during joint and special offensives in eastern Nangarhar province last month.
During the period, 132 individuals were also held in connection with different crimes, said Lt. Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi, the provincial police chief.
He told a press conference here that 18 clearing and airstrikes operations were carried out against militants in Nangarhar last month.
He said nearly 140 militants were eliminated and 54 were wounded and 132 crime suspects arrested.
He added security forces also seized 19 different weapons, 23 vehicles and an arms cache during the month.
Around 10 militants joined the peace process as a result of efforts by security organs which were also able to detect 65 different criminal incidents.
He assured that security forces were fully prepared to protect the country and urged people to cooperate with security forces in maintaining security.
