MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Militants have staged a comeback in areas they were recently driven from during “clearing operations” in the Chamtal district of northern Balkh province, residents said on Thursday.
Security forces, spearheaded by Governor Atta Mohammad Noor, conducted clearing operations in areas where rebels had captured some security posts.
Tens of rebels were killed in the last month’s operation, with security forces claiming to have recaptured the lost check-posts and purged the area of militants.
But residents claimed the militants were back in some areas after Eidul Adha.
