SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): At least five militants have been killed or wounded during air operation in northern Sar-I-Pul province, officials said.
Acting provincial police chief, Col. Ghulam Sakhi Nikpi told Pajhwok Afghan News foreign forces targeted militants in two areas of Suzma Qala district of the province and Khairee Saisheram area of capital of Sar-I-Pul on Wednesday night.
He said three militants were killed and two others wounded during the airstrikes. Air attacks have recently increased in the province, forcing rebels to flee to Iran.
Militant groups did not comment yet on the incident.
A day earlier, Sar-I-Pul police officials claimed detained an important Taliban member who he said was involved in killing six Afghan Local Police (ALP) forces. They said that the Taliban figure was detained when trying to escape to Iran.
