ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least 18 Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed in two separate airstrikes in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Thursday.
Kunar police chief Maj. Gen. Juma Gul Himmat told Pajhwok Afghan News that foreign troops carried out airstrikes in Kokai area of Ghaziabad district on Wednesday night, killing seven IS militants.
Another 13 Daesh insurgents were killed in a separate airstrike conducted in Narai district, said Himmat, adding the dead included some foreign nationals.
The police chief did not identify the slain foreign rebels, but a security official said they were Arab nationals.
Daesh has recently gained a foothold in Kunar and has intensified its activities but security forces have also increased operations against the outfit.
