Commander among 9 militants killed in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A notorious commander was among nine Taliban militants killed during ongoing security operations in two districts of central Logar province, an official said on Tuesday.

The governor’s spokesman, Salim Saleh, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces had launched operations in Barak-i-Barak and Kharwar districts over the past few days.

He said so far nine militants a notorious commander, Hanifa, had been killed in the operation and another six wounded.

“Nasrullah aka Hanifa was killed along with his three fighters in Tangi Wardak area of Barak-i-Barak district. He directed suicide attacks, abductions and group attacks.”

Similarly, Saleh said security forces had detained 31 people for allegedly cooperating with militants in the Mohammad Agha district.

But a resident of Kutabkhel area, Sabir, said security forces had detained civilians.

The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard. However, their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted that the fighters attacked a security forces logistics convoy in Porak area of Pul-i-Alam, Logar’s capital.

He said five Afghan soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the attack.

Security officials have not yet commented about Mujahid’s claim.
