Acting Nad Ali police chief killed in Taliban ambush

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Acting police chief for Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province has been killed in a Taliban ambush, officials said Wednesday.

Governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that Abdul Basir, the acting police chief of the district was on way to support Afghan forces in a clash near Lashkargah, the provincial capital when came under Taliban ambush on Tuesday evening.

He said a policeman was also killed and three policemen and two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were wounded in the incident. Eight Taliban fighters also suffered casualties, he said without giving exact figures of dead and wounded.

A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi tweeted that Taliban stormed a police post in Spin Mamoriat area of Nad Ali district on Tuesday night.

However, he did not provide information about casualties.

Nad Ali police chief, Col. Omar Jan Haqmal was killed in a Taliban attack on Saturday.
