KABUL Network (AWN) on Thursday accused two private television channels of ‘insulting’ women in their comedy shows, calling it ‘unacceptable.’
Robina Hamdard, advocacy section head at AWN, told a press conference in Kabul that Tolo and Noorin TV channels in their “Shabaka-i-Khanda” (Laugh Network) and “Sarzamin-i-Man” (My homeland) shows insulted women’s character.
She said the AWN had several times complained about the matter but to no avail. Hamdard said a report ‘full of lies’ was circulated about Shinkai Karokhel, the Afghan envoy to Canada, on social media.
The report says Canadian authorities have rejected meeting invitations of the Afghan envoy after she has been accused of nepotism in embassy staff employment. Hamdard said the report baseless and an insult to Karokhel’s character.
Seddiqullah Tawhidi, a member of the commission on media violations, said they had studied complaints registered by AWN.
He said they had been referred only Shinkai Karokhel issue which had been resolved by the commission and other cases were referred to the Attorney General Office (AGO).
