KABUL has got under way, a news report said on Thursday.
The railway line will stretch from Turkmen station Serhetabat to the border town of Torghundi in western Herat province.
According to Turkmenistan’s Dovlet Habarlary news agency, the track is being built on the basis of a MoU between the two countries.
It added the section would be rebuilt completely with Turkmenistan’s funds. The project is expected to boost trade activity in landlocked Afghanistan.
The railway lines and motorways will connect Torghundi with Ashgabat and the port of Turkmenbashi.
Eventually, the corridor would continue through the Caspian Sea to Baku, and then through Tbilisi to Ankara and Istanbul.
