Most journalists refuse to report violence against them

KABUL (Pajhwok): Among every 10 Afghan journalists, five have been refusing investigation into incidents of violence happened to them, a media advocacy group, NAI, said Thursday.

NAI Director Abdul Mujib Khelwatgar told reporters in Kabul that according to a survey, 56 percent journalists refused reporting violence happened against them to be investigated by judicial organs while 44 percent agreed to the investigation.

The survey was conducted in Kabul, Balkh, Herat, Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces, he said.

He added fearing further problems in the aftermath of investigation forced journalists into refusing investigation of incidents of violence they were subjected to.

Khelwatgar, however, said it was their responsibility to investigate every incident of violence against journalists.

He asked the government not to put in danger the families of female journalists while investigating incidents of violence against them.
